How to Check Cloud Functions Logs on Your Phone
When a function starts failing, the logs tell you why. How to read them from your phone.

Where Cloud Functions logs live
Firebase does not keep its own copy of function logs. Every console.log, logger.error and crash goes to Google Cloud Logging. The Firebase console links out to the Logs Explorer, which is a big desktop app that barely works on a phone.
Reading them in FireLog
- 1
Open Cloud Functions
Pick your project and open Functions. Every function is listed with its runtime, region and trigger type (HTTPS or event).
- 2
Open a function
Tap it to see its details and its recent log entries, newest first.
- 3
Scan by severity
Entries are colour-coded by severity, so ERROR and WARNING stand out from DEBUG and INFO.
- 4
Trigger it
For HTTPS functions, run it from the app to check whether your fix works.
Under the hood FireLog queries logging.googleapis.com/v2/entries for the function's resource, the same source the Logs Explorer uses, so nothing is missing or delayed compared with the console.
What to look for first
| You see | It usually means |
|---|---|
Function execution took 60000 ms, finished with status: 'timeout' | An await that never resolves, or a slow external call |
PERMISSION_DENIED | The function's service account lacks a role |
Memory limit exceeded | Raise memory or stop loading the whole collection |
| Many cold starts in a row | Traffic spike or a new deploy; consider min instances |
Get FireLog on the App Store or Google Play. For more on running backend code, see Firebase on the server.
