When you need to edit Firestore from a phone

Most Firestore fixes are small: a feature flag set to the wrong value, a user stuck with status: "pending", a config document with a typo. They are urgent precisely because they are small, and they rarely happen when you are at a desk.

Editing a document in FireLog

  1. 1

    Open the project

Sign in with the Google account you use for Firebase and pick the project.

  2. 2

    Find the document

Open Firestore, choose the collection, and filter by a field to find the document instead of scrolling.

  3. 3

    Edit the field

Tap the document, change the value, and save. You can set strings, numbers, booleans and null; for timestamps, maps and arrays, use the web console for now.

  4. 4

    Check the result

The document reloads from Firestore, so what you see is what is stored.

Frequently asked questions

Can I manage Firestore data from my phone?
Yes. The web console works in a mobile browser for quick reads, and FireLog is a native app for iOS and Android that lets you browse, filter and edit documents.
Is there a Firestore app for iPhone?
Google does not make one. FireLog is an iPhone and Android app that connects to Firestore with your Google account.
Do Firestore security rules block edits from FireLog?
No. Like the web console, it uses your Google account's IAM permissions, which security rules do not apply to.
Can I edit Realtime Database too?
FireLog shows the Realtime Database tree. Document editing is for Firestore.
